Chaos, whirlwinds, last minute plans, being present, that’s basically what i’m made of. I’m always down for an adventure, may it be small or large, planned a year or in advance or five minutes prior. I have what my friend Eliza taught me is a serious case of “FOMO”. I’d never heard of “FOMO” until she told me I had it…
FOMO: Fear. Of. Missing. Out.
It’s a real thing and I def have it. Especially if it’s a new experience. With that being said I know that’s not the case for everyone. There are people in this world who have to make their weekend brunch plans by Wednesday at the latest, coordinate their socks with their suits, carry a tooth brush and tide pen with them at all times, the list goes on and on. While there’s nothing wrong with that, there are just a few things that can’t be planned days, weeks, months, or years in advanced. DAYCATIONS are one of those things.
Daycation: A completely unplanned adventure to some awesome place with no expectations and no “need” just simply the want to go. do. be. LIVE!
Good friends of mine, Amber & Breck came to NYC to see a Yankee’s game and be tourists, or so I thought until one night we decided on DC and the next morning at 6am we were in a rental car jamming out for four hours straight. Completely unplanned and messy, just the way we like it. Stress free. May sound crazy but the more that is unplanned the less stressed I feel. I know there will always be cars to rent, hotels to stay at, and good food to eat. While it’s great to get those reservations at the hottest spot in town it’s nice to be able to go where the wind blows you and not have to expect anything.
I guess that’s my words of advice. If you have an opportunity to do something you’ve never done today DO IT.! Even if it’s not how you imagined it to be. Take it for what it is and enjoy it.! There’s no shame in finding joy in the small things in life. Just because theres other people sipping mai tai’s in Turks and Caicos doesn’t mean that a daycation to some obtainable place doesn’t make it any less of an adventure or any less enjoyable. It’s all in your attitude and perception. Next time you have a day off consider going somewhere new. Doing something you’ve always thought about, instead of running errands, doing laundry, then watching Netflix till your alarm calls you back to reality.
GET OUT AND DO IT.
On the note of comparing your journey with others, which I’m just as guilty of as anyone else…
DON’T DO IT.
Comparing ruins everything.! Comparisons are the biggest party pooper of all time because there will always be something “bigger” and “better” in the worlds eyes. Although you only have one set of eyeballs, and that’s yours! (if you’re lucky) So quit looking at peeps, IG, FB, SC, etc and comparing because it’s pointless. Be in the moment and appreciate what YOU have in the present and know the more grateful you are NOW the more you will receive in the future.
With that being said these are the best moments we captured on our Daycation to DC as well as a few in NYC prior. I’d love to see and hear about everyones latest dventures. Tell me your favorite spots, whether it’s a cafe for the best Chai Tea Latte, place to boot scoot and boogie, buy your mother a hand made card, whatever makes you smile a little bigger. I want to know.!
SPRINKLES CUPCAKES ALWAYS DO THE TRICK.!
